We've had her for a couple of months now, even long enough to experience her moulting process (verry interesting)! Shelob the Tarantula is the newest addition to our household and I find myself absolutely immersed in teh world of "boys". Really. There's a spider living on my kitchen counter.
We do love her though, and she makes for a great pet. Right now she is about a year old, and she could live to be 25. Josh can take her to college. She eats crickets, which is quite violent, but the main reason for getting a spider in the first place. Like I said ... boys.

Awesome spider! I've always been a spider type of girl (as opposed to snakes that is((shiver)). Jared and I once had a pet hermit crab named Hermie. He was a great pet- even changed shells for us.
Guess what Laura.... I'm going to be a mom! Next weekend that is :).

Cool, actually I think it is a little creepy but still cool. My boys love it!

Oh yeah, I have a Mexican Staring Frog. If you stare or look at the frog's eyes, you could fall down and die. He will live to be 35 years old. I haven't looked at it in the eyes yet though. I wouldn't even dare.
My "girls" always have some sort of wild life on our kitchen counter. Our rule is a minimum of 3 habitats for only 3 days then they need to be set free. We are in the observation business not the killing wildlife business. (we usually don't know what to feed our critters) We collect frogs, praying mantis, fish, tadpoles, dragonfly larve, snakes and the occasional protozoa. Yes, we have had all of the listed items in our kitchen over the last 3 years! AHHHH!!! Even with all that we have kept as "pets" I am not sure I could keep a spider for 25 years! GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!
You won't catch this boy with a spider. Well..unless it's on the bottom of my shoe. Pretty cool though. I didn't know they lived that long, very interesting.
Boys and spiders!! What is with that really? Just kidding. I think after the initial shock of someone actually keeping a spider on purpose, it's pretty cool. It reminds me of the first Home Alone movie! That spider was cool, too!!
karen has three new blogs
**shudder** Okay I am over it now. My dd thinks the spider is fake and my son is convinced it will be his friend. So I guess I am going to have to bring them over to see that thing......*shudder*.......I am just not a spider person. She is getting BIG! She was so small the last time I was there. Have fun with the spider!
