Theater Issues

i wonder if Mike should be writing this post... he probably won't aprove of me telling the world this. Our projector is broken. Mike was bothered by some dust spots in the lamp that were showing up on the screen, so he took it apart. He is usually really handy, and we were both confident that he wouldn't cause any damage. But....

We took it to a tech place to fix it and they wanted $600 so we decided to just upgrade. So, if you are in the mood for a nice hi-def big screen movie experience in the privacy of our home, give us a call! The Barlow Blue Box Theater should be up and running by wednesday next week. Next on our theater wish list.....an old fashioned movie theater popcorn maker.

Well, I can help you with the popcorn maker . . . I mean come on-is there anything that my Dad doesn't have, and since it's in Cache Valley, I could bring it over . . .

I love the new set up by the way.

Just for the record, I had previously taken it apart and put it back together with no problems. And the wire that ended up being the problem was already showing signs of failure before I completely ripped it out. So, I may not have been the whole 'cause' of the problem.

You ripped out your projector? Aw man oh man.

Laura said...

Yes Daniel, but read carefully-- we are getting a new High Definition projector. So, in a way this is a good thing. Just wait until you see a movie in high-def on a 106" screen!!

we have an upconverting dvd player, but the ps3 or blue ray player will have to wait. one major expense at a time. Movies will look almost as good as hi def with the upconversion though.

i took a tv class once and used my tv as a example and it never did work after the PUTZ TOOK IT APART

Putz said...

NOT A PSC3 BUT YOU NEED A TL56B

Cool. I/we broke our awning on our trailer last weekend, so I guess we get a new and improved awning now..not that we wanted one really, so we know how it all goes. Oh, and I broke my levers again from crashing 3 or 4 or 5 or so too many times. So, new and improved levers too.

Daniel said...

I think it is time for guards for your levers. I have to admit it, you really need them, so it wouldn't spoil your trips. Or, just not wreck.

Skybob said...

I had a spare set of levers in the trailer so it didn't spoil my trip. I had guards at one time, but broke them too. The new levers I am getting are spring loaded to break away without actually breaking and they are forged instead of cast, they claim they are "unbreakable". They better be for $55 each!

Skybob said...

You've seen prov..imagine riding a bike up it..in the mud and snow!! practice, practice, practice.... a half dozen falls into the rocks was all it took. I think these new levers will work, then I will still have a spare set..just in case. ;)

Tony, Our new projector upconverts all incoming material to high definition. Supossedly the new chips do a pretty good job of this, but I haven't seen them in action. Does your T.V. upconvert, and if so what does it look like? We are going to try it for a while. I think the movies will look pretty good but I'm worried about my dishnetwork stuff. Right now our dish stuff looks horrible on the 106" screen. I think mostly because the DVR we have only has a S-video output. If we do get the dish hd programming can we just get the locals they offer for $5.95 per month (Fox, NBC, and CBS) or do we need to get the 28 channels, or whatever it is, for $10 per month, plus the locals? Plus then we need to get a dual channel high-def DVR (I saw a few of the dish vip622dvr online for around $250). Then we would need a blu-ray/PS3 player ($399) and a new reciever capable of organizing all of our high-def content and 'lossless sound' ($1,000 +). So I'm hoping my upconverter works really well.

Our tv doesn't upconvert. We have so many HD stations now that I usually don't watch it if it's not HD. We get all our locals in HD except for fox with the antenna which we get with the dish now, so we kind of doubled up on some of our locals, but we really needed fox HD(football..american idol for the girls), and with the dual tuner and the antenna we are capaple of watching like 4 things at once because we can record 2 things from the dish, 1 thing from the antenna, and watch something off the dvr all at the same time, I don't think Shelly's dad was able to get over the air HD with an antenna in Hyde Park, but I don't know about you guys. Shelly called dish a while ago to complain and got all this HD stuff for practically free, we were getting hosed! Shelly claims she can't tell a difference between the HD and our dvd player which is 480P and coaxial outs, but I can definitely tell the difference, but it's no where near what dish is on the low def stations. I record movies in HD even if we own them on dvd so I can watch them in HD. Our low def antenna looks better than the "digital" dish low def crap. Shelly can chime in here and tell you what she got, but we were not getting HD from the dish with the $5.95 before on the locals and now we have them all, so she got something different, but I think it was something that we should have been getting and were not. And, we got two recievers for free... Our first HD dvr was like $850! Now they give us one for free?? whatever, I'm happy now though. I bet your upconverter will be just fine, but the dish stuff might still be less than stellar. Ok, I need to stop rambling. Talk to Shelly!
When are you getting your new projector?

Laura said...

The projector just came to the house an hour ago. We will get it set up tonight and all questions will be answered. I want to rent a PS3/blu-ray ans hook it up via the new HDMI cable we got and flip back and forth between the upconverted standard DVD picture and the native Blu-ray HD picture to see how well the upconverter works. Hopefully it will look great and I won't be tempted into upgrading everything else. If my upconverter can make my standard def movies and standard dish network look good I will happy-- at least for a little while!
