greetings from the arctic....I mean Hyrum

Just a few shots of the snow storm here. Keep in mind, Michael is an avid shoveler, and this is the day after the snow. The wind make the snow drift up on our driveway two feet in some places over night. I swear all our neighbor's snow ended up in our yard! By the way, it's snowing again right now. Ugh. We need a garage.
I hope all of you North Carolinians and Ohioites aren't getting jealous! Maybe we could fedex you some snow; heaven knows we have enough of it.

We got quite a bit also. My sister in Flagstaff said they got over 3 feet she got stuck on the road trying to come home and the snow was above the bottom of her door on their truck.

At least we are on the rebound now! We get 3 minutes more sunlight every day!

The way that drifts in your driveway just looks ridiculous!

Holy cow, I'm shivering just seeing that. Today, I opened the windows. It was 75 degrees in my apartment, and I was considering air conditioning. I should have just checked out your blog, I would have felt much cooler.

Snow is fun when you feel like it and dirt is fun when you feel like that.

Very true Dan...IF you have the time and money to do it all.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!! I can't believe it. I am in the same boat as your friend Victoria, I can't imagine all that snow when we have such nice warm weather!!!! I was running my air-conditioner in my car yesterday!! It has been "unseasonably warm" here. Last week it was even up in the 70's! This week it is colder, we only had a high of 43 degrees. I was feeling sorry for myself and went on weather.com to see how cold it was with the wind chill so I could justify staying inside for recess. I discovered it was 40 degrees and probably silly not to venture outside.....but then I decided to check Ephraim weather just to make myself feel warmer. It said Ephraim was 7 degrees and with the wind chill it was -6!!!!! I decided to stop whining and take my kids outside! I really don't have anything to complain about now do I?

Dang, can come live with you? Is there anywhere to ride out there?

Mom just watched 20/20 last Friday night and they said Asheville, North Carolina is the happiest city on earth. I've been there and comparing to Ephraim, it is not even close. Well, maybe the salary wise, I guess it is. Oh yeah, they also said that Denmark is the happiest country because the doctor and the garbage man has the same salary, everybody there who works makes the same amount of money, also the garbage man gets more respect than the doctor. Pretty weird. I'm moving to Denmark, Denmark here I come!

That sounds a little screwed up..I don't know if I want a "garbage man" putting my arm together next time I break in half..but, maybe people there are motivated by more than money...not in America! Money talks! I sure wouldn't spend my life going to school for the same salary as I could get driving around picking up garbage 8 hours a day with no sacrifice to get there. I bet they have a surplus of garbage men, maybe I am on my own on this one, but wouldn't you think the docs would be...well,.. crappy?

I am glad I live in America. You reap what you sow..and we are free to make our own lives and gain satisfaction from what we sow, isn't that more fair? Wouldn't that make people more happy?
I just don't know how that would work..I don't think you have all your facts straight...I would like to know more if I am wrong though.

I can see why the garbage man would be happy but have no idea how the doctors could be happy with that arrangement.

Ya, my boss said today that would be pretty screwed up. Then everybody would not work on schooling or anything, nothing to work on, you know. Then I said that everybody would turn out to be janitors and still make $50,000 a year. It wouldn't be fair. I am happy with my job and I am ok with my money. I am just grateful I have a job and make some money, yes, 50,000 would be nice but it is never going to happen. Some money is better than no money because I was making nothing for a few years. It wasn't fun. I had only $20 a month from mom to spend on anything I want while I was living in Provo. Terrible experience. Now I am happy that I make like $1,000 a month, it is probably nothing to everybody else but it is something to me.

Yea, and pretty soon the average that everyone was making would go down, and down...(no money to spread around!), and new advancements would cease...our standard of living would go down because there wouldn't be the Bill Gate's, or other entrepeneurs then people wouldn't have internet, computers to play on/work on, not as much governement money for homeland security, no advancements in weapons to protect us, not as much social security money, job help programs, the church would have less money to help people etc. etc. etc. etc. no new dirt bike advancements!!! Cars would be less efficient, less powerfull. that's why we live so good here, because it's a free society..That's why america is better off than any other country. Right? You can't just pull money out of thin air and say everyone can do what they want and get $50,000/ year or whatever.. the money wouldn't be worth anything anyways. yeah it's got it's problems, but it's still the best sytem out there.

oh, heavenly sakes, no more money for dirt bike innovention or improvement, we might as well live in bangladesh, by the way hoe did all this get on the buzz...maybe that is the buzz that is going around right now, i wonder what claire thinks when he gets on his daughter's blooog and reads all this barlow scuttlebuck?????

Skybob said...

Well, maybe I should have said no more couches or pillows to put over your head..I was kidding a little about the emphasis on dirt bikes obviously, but at the same time, there IS more to life than couches and bran muffins. I know we will never agree on most things, Dad..I mean just take a look at your interests on your blog..
feel free to delete my comments if you want Laura.

I watched that show and the doctor didn't make the same amount as the garbage man. It was like the doctor made $80,000 a year and the Garbage man made $50,000 a year, unlike in America where a doctor can make $300,000 a year and the garbage man makes $20,000 a year. They also had the highest taxes of any country in the world, and in turn the governemnt paid for everyone's retirement in full. They also said one reason they were happier is becasue they don't want everything like we Americans do (in fact many people don't own a car they are content with thier pedal bikes). It sounds nice, but I agree with Tony. Go out and try to make as much as you want and if you are successfull then you probably earned it, free-market system.

I am so sorry I have missed this whole debate! First of all I want to clear up that I live in ASHEBORO NC.... not Asheville (which Dan has been in both but Asheboro has a lot of poverty and Asheville is a resort town so of course they are happy!!!....they have the fanciest McDonalds in the world?) It would be great if school teachers were paid the same as doctors because we would be a really rich family but Rob wishes he could have gone to 10 years less of college to be paid what a garbage man makes in Denmark! Love to everyone and if you all decide to move to Denmark please let me know.
