The new fishtank

We've been spending our spare time lately obsessing over our new pet project. The aquarium. My brother gave us (yes, gave) a beautiful 60 gallon aquarium with all the goods. We were thinking of doing salt water for a while, but then reality and our budget sense kicked in and we realized it was monitarilly impractical. Long story short, we've set up a beautiful natural fresh water aquarium and we are all loving it. My piano students have alot of fun with it as well; it's hard to keep their attention at the piano!
The fish are still small, so you probably can't see them. But we have a lobster, a crab, three tiger barbs, a rainbow shark, an upside down catfish, and a fire gourami. the plants are all live, and we are in the process of getting some natural driftwood for a centerpiece. It should be pretty nice.

Beautiful. I can see why your students don't want to play the piano and look at the fish instead. I rather do that.

I love fish tanks but Tony is always against them. I think he views them as a waste of money. Owen has a small tank with 3 fish and a snail.
That is a very pretty tank. Salt water tanks are nice but they are so much work and money.

Yes the salt water tanks are a lot of money. We looked into and priced what we would need to set it up the way we wanted-- sump pump, protien skimmer, live rock etc. and it would have cost us another $2,000 to $3,000 after the 'free' tank and stand. And that was just to get started. I think we can make the fresh water one look good though. we got our driftwood in yesterday and it made a huge difference, we'll have to post some more pictures. Shelly, does you dad still do aquariums? I know he has really been into it a couple of times.

Yea my parents have a nice salt water tank and it is really pretty but it takes a lot of time and money to keep it alive. It is really fun for the kids. My brother has a big fish tank that is really nice also, so does one of my sisters. We always had fish so I feel like you have to have them. I guess that is why Owen has a little tank.

I bet your fish are saying "this fish tank sucks, I want some salt!"

I have a fish tank in my classroom. It has been nothin' but trouble!!!!! I do everything right, check the amonia, ph, salt, clorine etc....... and they still die!!! AHHAHHHH I have a heater, filter everything but I can't keep them alive! I also have gouramis and they are really nice but I know it is only a matter of time before they go to the big trash can in the sky! Good luck....I have no advice to give since I am apparantly really bad as a fish mother! Last time they all died because my temp. was 92 degrees.....I cooked em'! Now I have a new heater, give them bottled water from the store and pray every day for their health and safety!
